Parks Update

Another busy week for Parks staff. Several projects were completed in the L&L Districts as well as Open Spaces and trails.

Multiple hours were allocated to the Sonoma County River Park by Parks staff this week. A 4 foot apron was mowed along a large portion of the main river trail as well as string weed eating around picnic tables. Several large cracks in the trail were sealed with asphalt in an effort to maintain the trail surface.

Parks staff collaborated with the Streets department in undertaking a critical maintenance project at the City owned parking lot behind a theater. All trees were pruned to ISA standards, which included removing all deadwood and pruning branches back to the lateral to encourage growth. Many truckloads of brush were hauled off as well as sweeping completes of the entire area and as we’ll as removal of debris from the storm drain system. Landscape medial was finished with a fresh layer of wood chips to retain the moisture content in the soil and create a weed barrier to minimize future maintenance.

At Vintage Meadows park, all pole lights were converted from traditional metal halide bulbs to high efficient LED lighting. This provides multiple benefits to the park, one of them being more lighting visibility as well as overall cost savings. This specific bulb has a longer life expectancy and uses less power to operate. Special thanks to Craig Johnson who always tackled projects with a smile during his 31 years working for the City of Cloverdale.
