Parks Update

Parks staff continue to roll out projects throughout City parks and landscapes. The majority of staff time this weekwas allocated to two playing fields, Second Street City Park and Furber Park. Several projects were completed in preparation of the 2022 Youth Soccer league season. The fields were mowed, edged and several small irrigation leaks were addressed. Open areas near parking lots were high string mowed and completed with a fresh layer of woodchips. Several extra water deliveries were made to supplement the stage 4 curtailment irrigation restrictions. Utilizing the water buggy, a total of 22,000 gallons of water were applied to the playing fields in the last couple of weeks. The additional irrigation is going to ensure that our local soccer youth and the rest of the community will be safe at play during this season.

Landscaping maintenance continues in our downtown corridor. The main focus in our downtown landscaping is to accommodate all local business and still keep our plants and trees healthy. Several trees and shrubs were pruned to aid with sign visibility in front of businesses as well as for pedestrian traffic.

Lastly, the pickleball court construction is underway. Parks Superintendent met with underground contractor Andersen Excavating to review the proposed drainage system, elevations and compaction details. The heavy machinery is scheduled to start this Monday the 22nd . The entire work zone will be closed to the public during construction. Extra safety fencing will be installed around the construction zone to prevent hazard.

Sonoma County Developing a High-level Strategy to provide Broadband Access to Unserved & Underserved Populations

In 2021, the County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors approved the Access Sonoma Broadband Action Plan to explore the creation of a publicly governed entity that would deploy, own, and manage broadband infrastructure for underserved or unserved regions of Sonoma County. The Broadband Action Plan aligns with Sonoma County’s five-year Strategic Plan for resilient infrastructure by seeking to improve equitable access to broadband internet technology, wireless and cell phone

Sonoma County is seeking input from the City of Cloverdale and is
holding focus groups with local leaders to help provide information to inform their analysis and gain insights. The County broadband team is working to bring a broadband analysis before the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors later this fall.  If you have any insights about expanding broadband in Cloverdale or the immediate surrounding area, please plan to share any insight that will help inform decisions by the Board of Supervisors with the City Manager who will in turn share information with County. Please contact City Manager David Kelley at dkelley@ci.cloverdale.ca.us if you have insight or perspectives on how to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved populations within the City.
