The main item on the Planning Commission Agenda is review of  the Reserve Capacity Calculator (RCC) for water and wastewater capacity. The city retained GHD Engineering Inc,  to develop the Water and Wastewater Reserve Capacity Calculator. The RCC was developed to track the capacity of the City's Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment facilities.  The RCC will assist the City determine if  the city has sufficient water and wastewater treatment capacity to serve new development. The RCC provides a estimate of how many additional homes, individuals, or other water and sewer users the existing systems can support and the impact of any planned developments on the water production and sewer treatment capacities.

ADU

Accessory Dwelling Unit Plans Available

Have you ever thought about building an accessory dwelling unit (AUD)? The City of Cloverdale is excited to partner with Napa Sonoma ADU and other jurisdictions around Napa and Sonoma counties to support residents in planning for and building ADUs.

he Napa Sonoma ADU Standard Plans Program website launches soon and will provide property owners with easy access to dozens of “off the shelf” ADU plans that can be purchased at low cost, saving thousands of dollars and months of time over a custom design. Plan options include site-built (coming soon!) and prefabricated designs of various sizes, including “pre-reviewed” plans. Since each property is unique, these plans are approximately 85% complete. It will be up to the individual property owner to complete the plans based on the specific site. It is anticipated that many customers may take the plans to work with a contractor or other professional to finalize them with the few remaining components.

Parks Maintenance Update

Parks staff continued to make progress on vegetation management projects at City parks, facilities and easements. The main goal this week was to complete a second round of mowing at the L&L District - Cottages as well as L&L District  - Vintage Meadows. Approximately 20 yards of wood chips were broadcast in landscape areas near Furber Park. The addition of wood chips in landscape areas creates a weed barrier as well as moderates soil moisture content and reduces irrigation demands/water usage.

Parks staff reported to work at 6:00 am this week to get an early start on the fire fuel suppression projects in an effort to create a fire break between open fields and nearby homes. Over the last two years, the City has not been able to rely on staffing resources for vegetation management from the California Conservation Crew due to high demand statewide from fire activity. Despite the lack of additional assistance, Parks staff have made a dedicated effort to reduce vegetation in city maintained areas.

Parks staff Address Water Leaks at City Parks

Parks staff routinely respond and repair leaking irrigation systems that serve our parks and landscaping areas. This week, the most significant repair work was the replacement of a malfunctioning 2” gate valve at the Second Street City Park inside the booster pump (see picture below). Parks staff worked quickly to replace the valve in order to reduce water waste.

Fixing leaks a critical to responding to the drought!

Check & Fix Leaks

Fixing a leak can potentially save hundreds of gallons each month.

  • Listen for dripping faucets and toilets that flush themselves.
  • Check your toilet for leaks
  • Read your water meter to assess usage and find hidden leaks.
