Parks Update

The high wind event this week generated additional maintenance for the Parks staff. Several trees varying in size and species were reported 'down' across several major trails at the Porterfield Creek Preserve. Staff worked quickly to remove the obstructions to allow a safe path for our daily park visitors. Special Thanks to all of our daily park users for communicating and reporting suspicious or notable activity in all city parks.

Parks Superintendent met with Monique Hernandez, Workability Co-Coordinator Region 3. Monique leads a Transition Program through the Cloverdale High school. The program's intent is to build lifelong skills beneficial for the students involved. Parks will be hosting some of the students in the Department. Community Development and Parks greatly value the opportunity to participate in and support this type of program. Parks staff continues to work with high school students.  This week, additional maintenance (leaf pick up, weeding and mulch placement) was performed in landscape areas along Foothill Drive (see picture below).

City Prepares for the 130th Annual Citrus Fair

In preparation for the 130th Annual Citrus Fair Parade and Festival, City staff conducted focused maintenance efforts over the last few weeks on the Thyme Square property and Downtown Corridor. The Thyme Square property was mowed in preparation for use of the property for parking for the fair.  In addition, parks staff conducted string weed-eating in the citrus grove along the fair entrance to Citrus Fair drive (picture below).

In preparation for the parade event on Saturday,  several yards of woodchips were added in City maintained landscape areas and planters (see picture below).  Additionally, Parks staff  pruned and hedged several blocks of landscaping.  Maintenance efforts will continue next week to ensure the downtown is welcoming!
