New 15 MPH Speed Sign Installed on E. 3rd StreetIn response to resident concerns about speeding on E. 3rd Street, the City installed a new sign on the south corner of E. 3rd Street. Based on review of site conditions on E 3rd St, the road segment section contained the following characteristics:
- Narrow bridge crossing to a dead end/ private driveway serving a higher density senior development.
- Narrow residential road width with parking on both sides.
- Road segment serves as a bus route in two directions.
- High parking demand during certain hours
The sign provides a mechanism for enforcement by our Cloverdale Police Department.

Parks & Recreation Weekly UpdateSeveral key park maintenance projects were completed this week.
One of the highlights is the installation of a new water fountain, a bottle refill station at Furber Park. The new fountain features three different drinking stations: a bottle refill dispenser, ADA drinking station and a doggy bowl at the bottom. The refill station were acquired through Zero Waste Sonoma through a Sonoma County Waste Management (SCWMA) Recycle grant program.
A second bottle refill container fountain is scheduled to be installed at the Second Street City Park this Spring. Please see images below of local kids enjoying the new feature at Furber park. Special thanks to park staff Miguel Sanchez for undertaking the plumbing and installation of the fountain. Facility maintenance was completed at Furber Park. Two windows were repaired to allow the sale of snacks during little league and T-ball games. Several light fixtures were replaced inside the building as well as a general clean up of the park and the installation of 12 yards of mulch near the restroom facilities.

Vegetation Management Update - Porterfield CreekPhase 2 of the Vegetation Management project at Porterfield Creek Open Space wrapped up this week. Northern Sonoma County Fire Fuels Crew focused vegetation management efforts on the East side of Porterfield Creek with the goal of reducing ladder fuels in this area. This maintenance work will provide a level of protection to the homes surrounding the park and establish a fire line/break. All debris accumulated from this project was grind chipped and distributed onsite.
Parks Superintendent met with Northern Sonoma County Fire Fuels Crew Supervisor and Cloverdale Fire District to plan and identify Phase 3 of fire fuel reduction at the Open Space. Projected costs are planned to be included in the City's budget for next fiscal year starting July 1, 2022.

Fix a Leak Week - March 14-20, 2022The Sonoma Marin Saving Water Partnership has useful tips to help you find and fix leaks around the house. Start by looking for high or unusual water use on your water bill. Is water use higher than in previous months? It could mean you have a leak! Next, check with your water provider to determine if water usage data is available online or if it is recommended to manually check your meter. Check online to see if there is any water usage registering when no water is being used. Check your meter, take a reading when all water using fixtures are turned off. If water use is detected when the water is off, you have a leak! Lastly, perform a visual check all your water using fixtures inside and outside your home, like toilets, faucets, showerheads, and irrigation systems. If you know you have a leak and can’t find the source, it may be time to consider a professional leak detector. Every drop counts! For more tips on how to find and fix leaks at home, rebate programs, and water-saving tools please visit the Sonoma Marin Saving Water Partnership website: SavingWaterPartnership.org.

Water Supply UpdateThe Drought is Not Over The Russian River watershed is entering a third consecutive year of below-average rainfall. As a result, water supply levels at Lake Mendocino and Lake Sonoma remain at historic lows. The City of Cloverdale urges our community to keep up the great work and effort – water saved now, is water we can use later. The Sonoma Water weekly water supply graphic (below) provides a comparison of storage levels during 2020, 2021 with current 2022 water storage for our two main reservoirs, Lake Sonoma, and Lake Mendocino. You can stay informed about Current Water Supply Conditions, Drought Updates, Actions, and Information by going to: SonomaWater.org/current-water-supply-levels.

Bay Area Summer Academy for High School Students Do you know high school students interested in how the Bay Area grapples with issues like environmental justice, housing and transportation equity, community health and social justice?
Four regional government agencies are sponsoring an online Bay Area Summer Academy to provide insights into how regional governments address these issues and how the public, including students, can help advance equity across the Bay Area. Students from low-income households are encouraged to apply – the deadline is April 4, 2022.
During weekly one-hour online seminars in July 2022, students will learn about: - What regional agencies do and the skills needed for a future career in the public sector.
- How to weigh in on decisions that impact the air we breathe, the neighborhoods we live in, how we get to work, school, exercise, and other factors that shape our communities’ health.
- How students can have a voice in making decisions that benefit their communities.
- Questions like how long is a bridge supposed to last? Why are there so many potholes? Why is housing so costly? Is the water really rising around the Bay?
Participating students will attend online sessions, complete quizzes, and make a brief presentation on a local challenge involving transportation, housing, environmental justice and/or related topics. Upon completing the Bay Area Summer Academy, students will receive a certificate to include in college, vocational and/or job applications. To apply for the Academy, students must: - live and attend high school in the Bay Area,
- be 16 years old and have completed the ninth grade by July 2022,
- be able to attend online seminars and present on a topic related to the seminars, and
- if the student is under 18, have the permission of a parent or guardian to participate.
Enrollment is limited, and selections will emphasize a diversity of perspectives from students across the Bay Area. Grade point averages are not considered. Participating agencies include the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).
