Russian River Revitalization Projects

Russian River Business Owners – We Want to Hear from You!

The Russian River Revitalization project is a new campaign to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance and value of the Russian River
  • Offer sustainable ways and tools to promote the health of our watershed
  • Keep our businesses and community thriving

The County of Sonoma, in collaboration with the Russian River Confluence, is launching the Russian River Revitalization project. The project will establish a campaign and infrastructure to advocate for the health of the Russian River; engaging businesses, residents, and visitors in stewardship of this critical resource.

As a business owner, your input is crucial to identifying the business challenges and working towards a healthier and more prosperous Russian River.  This meeting is dedicated towards small business input. What are the opportunities and needs at the intersection of the businesses that rely on the River and the River's health? We want your opinions and ideas!

Please join on Wednesday, September 22nd from 3-4 pm. Your input and insight will be much appreciated!

Creeks

Streets to Creeks Program

Everyone can help keep our creeks clean.

The Streets to Creeks outreach program has a new tool that will become live starting September 27th. It is called Neighbor to Neighbor and it allows residents to anonymously educate each other about storm water pollution prevention.

When neighbors see activities in their neighborhood that pose a potential pollution threat, they can complete an online form which will trigger local public service announcements through Google AdSense. Ads specifically about the reported activity (gravel stockpiles in the street, washing paint down the gutter, etc.) will be broadcast to neighbors within 2 miles of the reported activity; appearing on websites they visit. You report a neighbor about pressure washing their car engine in their driveway and later that day you, your neighbor and their neighbors see a public service announcement about that specific act and advice for less polluting alternatives.

Housing Element Update

The City is in contract with 4Leaf Inc., Inc to assist the City of Cloverdale on the update of the General Plan Housing Element and facilitate the document’s certification through the California Department of Housing and Community Development(HCD). Community Development staff previously issued an RFP to obtain proposals from qualified consultant to assist with updating the 6th Cycle Housing Element.

The updated Housing Element will address the requirements of State law, including recent changes regarding the analysis of sites and zoning-related requirements for housing entitlements. Staff has tentatively scheduled this item for the October City Council meeting for authorization.

A Call To Action
A small grant program for teachers and their students

Sonoma Water has introduced a small grant program, A Call To Action, that will support solution-focused projects related to water or climate change.  The program is intended to inspire a sense of ownership and hopefulness in students as they work together to make a positive impact on a problem they have identified at their school or in their neighborhood.

Who can apply?
Teachers in public, private, or home school situations in grades TK-12 in Sonoma and Mendocino counties and the City of Novato. Students in school clubs with a teacher advisor. Projects may include students from multiple classrooms and grades.
How much is available?
Teachers can request $100 to $1,000 for their project. Checks will be made payable to the school or to an ASB account at the school. No checks will be made payable to individuals. We aim to support projects from across our service areas and will prioritize applicants from as many different locations as possible.
