Resilient Cloverdale Organization Survey

You are invited to participate in the Resilient Cloverdale Organization Connections Survey. The survey is designed to collect information about your organization and its connections to other organizations that serve Cloverdale. It is part of a research project being conducted by a team from San Francisco State University in partnership with Resilient Cloverdale. Resilient Cloverdale is a cross-sector initiative committed to advancing the resilience of Cloverdale and the surrounding community by making smart emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery plans and investments.

The purpose of the research is to assess the role that social cohesion, at both the individual and organizational levels, has played in the Cloverdale community’s responses to recent crises, including the Public Safety Power Shutoffs in Fall 2019 and the Covid-19 shelter-at-home order that began in March 2020. You can take the survey here: https://sfsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Zy95pnOeilzVYy

We will use the data from this survey to help us document connections, identify gaps and opportunities, and inform planning and strategies to advance community resilience as the Cloverdale community prepares for future crises. Please assist Resilient Cloverdale to achieve its mission by completing this survey. The aggregate findings will be shared with the community, including government agencies, and may be used in scholarly publications and presentations.

The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.  Any questions or concerns should be directed to the principal investigator, Jennifer Shea, Ph.D., at jshea@sfsu.edu or 415/817-4462. Dr. Shea is an Associate Professor of Public Administration at San Francisco State University  (https://pace.sfsu.edu/people/faculty/jennifer-shea).

Repair Work Completed on Scouts Hut

The City Council allocated funding to perform much needed repairs to the Scout Hut cabin at City Park in last year's budget. Some of the repair work was performed in-house by city staff while other work including electrical repairs were performed by local contractors.

Fitzgerald Painting was awarded the contract to paint the exterior of the building. This included painting rain gutters, down spouts and three layers of paint to exterior due to the fact that the building had not been painted over a very long period. Park Staff undertook some of the maintenance prep work prior to painting including pressure washing the exterior, caulking all the open cavities on the building and performing siding repairs.

For the current FY 2021/22 budget, an additional $8,000 was allocated to continue with additional maintenance and repairs to the Scouts Hut including addressing damaged electrical panels and maintenance of the furnace/HVAC system.

Safety First at Park Playgrounds

Parks staff conducts routine safety checks at all City Parks. Parks staff conducted key safety maintenance work at each of our Parks that feature playground structures to ensure the play areas continue to be safe.

Approximately, sixty (60) yards of certified playground wood nuggets where spread at Furber Park, Second Street City Park, Vintage Meadows Park and Clark Park. The main emphasis for application of  was around slides, swings and climbing structures. The goal to maintain the international playground fall protection standards to keep our kids safe while they play.

Save Water Sign

Save Water Signs Placed at City Parks

The current drought is affecting all of California and the City of Cloverdale Parks Department is taking action steps to reduce water usage in all parks and landscape areas. Parks staff is working to prevent the loss of turf and compromising safety of youth and residents in the community who will be participating in scheduled seasonal sporting activities. Bi-lingual drought signage was printed and posted throughout the park areas with large turf fields to encourage water use reduction.

Thyme Square Vegetation Management

City staff conducted a late season mowing this week on the Thyme Square Property located south of the Citrus Fair in preparation for the August 7th Fire and Earthquake Safety Expo (see flyer below). As usual, City staff member Craig Johnson was all smiles after he completed the important vegetation maintenance work on the City's property.
