City Council Appoints Mayor and Vice Mayor

Due to the resignation of Councilmember Jason Turner, appointed Mayor, the City Council was asked on Wednesday, May 12 (their regular meeting) to re-organize and appoint a Mayor to ensure the responsibilities of the role is carried out. The City Council supported the nomination of Councilmember Marta Cruz as the appointed Mayor.

Councilmember Todd Lands was then appointed to Vice Mayor. Both will service in their new capacities through the end of the year. 

On Wednesday, the City Council unanimously voted to begin the appointment process to fill the unscheduled City Council position vacancy. Applications will be made available early next week for interested parties. Applicant interviews are tentatively scheduled for the City Council's regular meeting on Wednesday, June 9. Water Supply Update

  1. Cloverdale City Council declared a water shortage emergency on April 28th. The Council set a mandatory water reduction target of twenty five percent from 2020 water use for all City water users and its residents to protect the public health and safety of its residents and businesses.  
  2. Sonoma Water, Water Advisory Committee seek 20 percent voluntary conservation.
  3. Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on April 27 declared a local drought emergency.  View the agenda item and proclamation. Read the press release.
  4. Governor Newsom signed a State of Emergency Proclamation for Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Read the proclamation. Read the Governor's press release.  Read Sonoma Water's statement.
  5. The Russian River watershed is in a historic drought.  The watershed has experienced extremely dry weather conditions this water year (WY-2021). A water year begins of October 1 and ends on September 30th of the following year. This is the second consecutive dry water year coming on the heels of WY-2020, which was also very dry.   6. The current drought on record is 1976/1977 when Ukiah received just 16.12 inches of rainfall. As of today, Ukiah has recorded only 12.24 inches of rainfall this year, slightly ahead of 1976/1977 when Ukiah measured 11.27” through April 15.  On average, Ukiah receives 37 inches a year. In Santa Rosa, only 12.77 inches of rainfall has fallen this water year, just 3.30 inches more than the driest year of record (1976/1977) when Santa Rosa measured 9.47” through April 15.  On average, Santa Rosa receives 32.20” inches a year.
  7. Reservoir capacities are lower than they were during the last drought, which was 2013/2014. View more data on this drought.  
  8. Residents are encouraged to continue using water wisely and eliminate water wasting activities. Learn more water saving tips at savingwaterpartnership.org.

Water supply projections show that without additional rainfall and without aggressive water saving by our communities, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino water supply levels will reach historically low levels by October 2021. The State Water Resources Control Board has already issued letters throughout the region urging water right holders to reduce and conserve water.

Red Light, Green Light

The new set of traffic signals near Furber Plaza are scheduled to be activated!  The newly installed traffic signal located at the intersections of South Cloverdale Blvd., Treadway & Santana Drives will light up for the first time on Thursday May 20, 2021. Work crews will be present most of the day testing the operations of the new signal. Some minor traffic delays are expected during the activation of the signals. Please drive respectfully and watch for the red, yellow, and green lights that indicate when you're supposed to stop and go through the intersections.

The Providence Mobile Clinic is being offered on Mondays from 2-4pm at the Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds. Services include: Treatment for acute and chronic care; screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar; pregnancy; anemia; rapid strep; Covid-19. Vaccinations for Tetanus and Flu. Sports Physicals. Referrals to Primary Care and Com-munity Agencies.

Spirit of Sonoma County Award- Alexander Valley Healthcare

On May 21, the Sonoma County Economic Development Board will present the Spirit of Sonoma County Award to Alexander Valley Healthcare (AVH). AVH is a sole provider of medical services between Healdsburg and Ukiah and serves a diverse community. AVH developed and coordinated the mass COVID vaccination program which enabled 12,000 doses to be given to patients, residents and local employees. Congratulations Alexander Valley Healthcare Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shellie Burdick, Deborah Howell, CEO and staff.

COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments Available – Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Vaccine – Ages 18 & Over

Vaccines are currently being offered May 13th and 14th by Alexander Valley Healthcare. The vaccines are scheduled for May 13 & 14 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Cloverdale Train Depot.

Food Distribution Continues

Food distribution efforts continue in Cloverdale. Catholic Charities, Cloverdale Pantry, Latinos Unidos, Redwood Empire Food Bank, and Sonoma Family Food continue to coordinate food distributions events with local organizations. Weekly distribution events are being held at the Cloverdale Senior Center and Cloverdale Citrus Fair. For more information text the word FOOD or COMIDA to (707) 353-6333.
